Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to book a senior session?

I highly recommend booking the senior session in January/February of their junior year. Scheduling your session to take place in the summer prior to your senior year has many advantages. Your schedule is not as busy and the weather is absolutely beautiful. You will be able to enjoy it more and you won’t have to worry about the yearbook deadline.

If you are interested in senior portraits for your own use, I recommend choosing the season that your senior loves the most. Summer and Fall are my favorite times to take those portraits. If you are using the photos in the yearbook, please check with your school to see when is the deadline. Some schools require to have the portraits ready by early October.

How much is the Senior Experience?

The Senior Experience has two parts…

Part I  is the Session fee of $200. It includes multiple outfits and up to two locations. It consists of a consultation to design the senior session, a wardrobe consultation, up to 4 hours of session time, and an in-person ordering session. The session fee is due at the time of the booking and does not include prints, products, or digital files.

Part II – Print Collections begin at $590 (5 portraits). A digital file is included with each portrait collection.

Digital Packages begin at $500 (5 photos). $100 additional image.

Are digitals included in your Portrait Packages?

Yes! A digital file is included with each print product that you purchase. Through years of experience, I have carefully chosen my printing labs to guarantee the quality of the products for the best possible results. You are welcome to see all the products at my home studio.

Who chooses the location(s) for our session?

We do it together during our consultation. This is one of my favorite things! After, I get to know you a bit better, what are your likes and hobbies, I will be happy to make recommendations of what place will be the best match to showcase you personality and align with your vision. Choosing the right location is a very important part of the session because I truly want to caputure you in your element. If you like outdoors, we definitely have the most incredible choices in Colorado Springs. If you love art and prefer something more modern and urban, downtown Colorado Springs, Old Colorado City, and Manitou Springs have so much to offer.

How soon can I see my pictures?

In most cases, within a week of the session, we will schedule a reveal appointment where you will be able to choose your favorite portraits. After the selection is finished, I will edit the portraits within 7-10 days.

What to wear to senior portraits?

I’m happy to help with that during our complimentary consultation. Picking several outfits for the session that are season-appropriate creates more opportunities to showcase the real you. Solid colors are timeless. Trust your instincts and choose what you are comfortable in. Long sleeves are very flattering. Remember your socks will show – pair them with your shoes and no flip-flops.

What is the Client's Closet?

I’m so glad that you asked. After collecting dresses and skirts for many years, I was able to build a Client’s Closet. All my Seniors and anyone else who books a session with me are welcome to wear them in their session. We will schedule a complimentary wardrobe consultation at my home studio where you will be able to try those gorgeous gowns and dresses on.

What is a Yearbook Photo?

That’s a great question. The Yearbook Photo has changed over the years and it depends on the school. Most schools will require a vertical photo of the senior with a clear background, waist up with clothing to match the school code and certain specifications. Please check with your school if there are other requirements they are looking for. Most schools now have relaxed their guidelines. Your senior can simply choose one of the portraits from the Senior Experience and submit that for the yearbook. I will certainly take care of the technical specifications. Please check with your high school on what is their yearbook deadline. Please keep in mind, you might also like more portraits with different poses and possibly different outfits, to include in your senior announcements, a senior ad, and for personal use. That is what my Senior Experience is designed for.

Who submits the yearbook photo to the school?

The senior does. I work with seniors from different schools, districts, and cities. Each school has a different deadline and different systems of submission. I prepare the image with the standard specifications (300dpi, srgb color space, vertical orientation) and save it with the senior’s first and last name.

What is a senior announcement?

Senior Announcements are cards sent out in the mail closer to graduation time to announce this very special event. It’s a flat, double-sided card, typically 5×7. My announcements do include envelopes.  It can consist of one or multiple images. Some clients consider it as an invitation to their senior’s graduation party – an open house. Others use it only to announce their graduation and which college they will attend that fall. Options are truly limitless here.

Do you offer Cap and Gown Portraits?

Yes, I absolutely do. My seniors who choose my top print collection receive two complimentary Cap and Gown Portraits and a set of 25 senior announcements. The Cap and Gown session is a great time to do a family portrait as well. Graduation day goes by so fast and moms especially are the ones who take the pictures and they are never in them.

Why should we choose you as our Photographer?

I want to be the reason you feel WELCOMED, SEEN, HEARD, and VALUED! I want to get to know you a bit better and tell your story.

This is not your typical senior session. It took me years to design it and perfect it.

I started to specialize in senior portraits because I LOVE working one on one with them. My daughter is a teenager and helps me in understanding what you guys are going through. That is why adding a consultation so we can design your session together, sending you a questionnaire, so I get to know you a bit better before the session, make you feel relaxed, and guide you during the session, so you have a great experience, means a lot to me.

I know how stressful junior and senior years are. I want my Senior Experience to be one of the things that will make you smile when you go back to think about it.

I only take one client a day. You will not be squeezed between appointments or rushed because I have to meet someone else. I’m proud to provide you with exceptional service because I care about you! I try to provide you with a service that requires minimal effort on your part and is a lot of FUN!

Maria is amazing!! When it was time to book my daughter’s session for senior pictures, she heard from girlfriends that Maria was wonderful. Madison went ahead and booked a session with Maria. Maddie had so much fun with Maria at her photo session. Then we got the pictures and they were amazing. I also needed to have some pictures taken of my daughter with her brother, so I went ahead and booked Maria again. My son Dylan HATES having his picture taken. Maria got Dylan to laugh and have fun. He told me later that he would definitely to go to a photo session with Maria again because he actually had fun and she made him laugh. We have since had Maria take cap and gown pictures, and I will hire her for our next family pictures! I would recommend Maria to anyone who wants beautiful photos of their family, and to enjoy the photo session with a truly wonderful person.

Finding a photographer that you trust and feel a connection with can be difficult. Maria has been taking our family’s photos for several years and we cannot recommend her services enough! She is professional, responsive, and extremely easy to work with. We have consistently received beautiful pictures, and love that we have been able to document so many cherished moments with Maria’s help.

Anyone can take a picture, but Maria captures a memory… Moments in time that are so beautiful, that we literally gasped with shock, of how amazing these pictures were!! Her sweet smile and personality instantly makes everyone feel relaxed and at ease. Her passion and eye for finding a “perfect spot,” only enhances the beauty of the people she is photographing without distracting from them! Her willingness to listen to ideas and suggestions of poses or a spot, showed us she wanted to fulfill OUR ideas of what we wanted captured not just her plan of what makes a good photo! Her photos will be passed on for generations and we could t be more excited about the experience and the results!! All of these reasons (and more) are why we HIGHLY recommend MR Photography to capture your family memories!!

Tiffany H.

Maria is wonderful to work with. Her photography is absolutely beautiful. She is a true professional and was so fun through the entire photo session. Her ideas were great and her location choices were perfect for what we were envisioning. She was quick to edit and deliver our photos. We had a hard time picking our favorites because there were so many good options. We will absolutely use her again!

Claudia B.

We absolutely love working with Maria! Her creativity and vision are amazing and there’s truly not a bad photo in the bunch! She captures the poses and ensures she’s getting your “good side!” But maybe even more priceless, is when she captures the emotion in those in between moments when you’re not posing for the camera but living and interacting with your loved ones <3 <3 <3

Wendy D.

Maria is very personable, easy to work with. She worked tirelessly with my 3 daughters to produce a series of fabulous photos, making them feel at ease. She is responsive to requests, flexible. I would recommend her highly!
